Location
Alfred, New York, is a village in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains about 40 minutes west of Corning, 70 minutes south of Rochester and two hours from Buffalo.
Students
About 1,700 undergraduates and nearly 400 graduate students from 43 states and 16 countries attend full-time on the Alfred campus. We have approximately 90 additional part-time graduate students on the Alfred, NY campus, and 475 graduate students enrolled in our AUNY NYC-metro area programs.
Campus
A 232-acre campus with more than 50 academic and residential buildings comprise a vibrant, student-centered living and learning community. Nearly 800 additional acres of recreational land accommodate the Saxon Hill Sports Complex, the Maris Cuneo Equine Park, and Foster Lake.
Admissions
Admission is selective. In general, admitted undergraduate students have an A, B+ or B high school average and the middle 50% have SAT scores between 910 and 1140. Admitted graduate students should have a 3.0 GPA or better.
Financial Aid
More than 95% of the entering first year class receives some type of financial assistance: university, federal, state, and private.

Surveys of Alfred University graduates consistently reveal that one year after graduation, 98% of our students land jobs or are attending graduate school.

Alfred University has 47 undergraduate majors and 65 minors. We also offer internships, research and study abroad opportunities in the following schools and colleges:

Class size
The average class size is 18 students. The student/faculty ratio is 13:1.
Faculty
90% of the faculty have doctorates or terminal degrees in their discipline. Teaching is the faculty priority. Faculty and staff secure research grants to help advance their commitment to the student experience and teaching excellence.
Academic Calendar
There are two semesters, an Allen Term (Winter Term), and two summer term sessions.

We have two libraries with extensive electronic resources supporting undergraduate and graduate programs.
Research
Undergraduate research is a hallmark of an Alfred University degree. Our research programs and centers complement academic programs.
Technology
We are 100% network-wired. The ratio of students to computers in labs, clusters and classrooms is 6:1. There is a laptop lending program and fully-staffed Information Technology Services HelpDesk.
Clubs and Organizations
More than 80 recognized clubs and organizations.
Athletics
Alfred University Saxons compete on 26 varsity teams including 17 NCAA Division III sports, one USCSA (United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association) sport, one NCA (National Cheerleading Association) and two IHSA (intercollegiate Horse Show Association) sports. Roughly 30% of all undergraduates play a varsity sport, and approximately half of all Alfred University students participate in either intramural or club sports. Learn more about Athletics.
